Episode 21: The True Star Of The County Down- Martin Clarke

Marty was, without doubt, the best Gaelic football player of his age group.  People came from all over Ireland to see him play. His performances for St Louis Grammar School, An Ríocht and County Down lead to him being scouted by the Australian Football League (AFL) and landing a dream contract with one of the top teams Collingwood, also known as 'The Magpies'. Marty spent seven years as a professional athlete. In between his career in Melbourne, he managed to come home and obtain a GAA All-Star and he helped take Down to their first All-Ireland Final in 16 years. Join me as I speak with Marty on the highs of his career and the lows, including his own Collingwood fans turning on him and being diagnosed with Addison's  disease which ultimately ended his career. He shares his wisdom, his struggles, how he stays focused on the positives and his tips on how to settle back home when leaving Australia. Come Along To 'A County Down Under Sunrise Social' To Meet New Friends In Sydney, Melbourne and Perth. https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/sunrise-social-sydney-tickets-118621517151Follow @acountydownunder on Instagram For More Info On Sunrise Social, Monthly Social Events And More Tips And Tricks On Living Abroad. Make sure to rate the podcast  :)Follow @acountydownunder on Instagram and TikTok and visit www.acountydownunder.com for all you need to know about life abroad .Join Caroline's amazing weekly Sunrise Social clubs across the world. The podcast is proudly sponsored by Gym+Coffee: 20% Discount code: DOWNUNDER
